It is 3:30pm
Friday
20 degrees in March
on Tai Po Kau trail
two women walk
side by side
reflecting
on the week passed
stopped
in their tracks
as he stands
brown
well worn garments
hang from his small
yet strong build
giving the appearance
of one not interested
in a disturbance
stretching
on a boulder
a few paces
ahead
blocking their path
he stares silently
on guard
throwing daggers
with his stare
the women
now
one behind the other
stare back
talking quietly
planning their escape
she claps
he jumps
down from
that rock
sauntering
with indignation
towards them
screams escape
he passes
standing
directly behind
he howls
the women
rush
on wards
away
from the ear-splitting
insults
thrown towards them
You kept me guessing…I wondered what or who could be in their way. Great descriptions in this piece!
Oh man, wasn’t expecting that at the end there. I was thinking how this reminded me of my mom and her friends walking the path and the neighborhood women I’ve seen on the same stretch of streets the past few days. It’s more about talking and catch up than actual exercise with them. I also liked your style here, cutting the scenery apart leading the reader to each detail so carefully. Nicely done.
OH, HOW UNEXPECTEDLY FUN WAS THIS!!! WELL DONE…YOU HAD ME HOLDING MY BREATH. THE CLAP GAVE ME A CLUE BUT IM FROM MICHIGAN AND I WAS NOT THINKING MONKEY! THANKS FOR THIS!
I loved your piece!
